Two of the bigger free agents for this offseason have started to have their contract proposals floated to the media.

Robinson Cano apparently started negotiations asking for 10 years and 300 million from the Yankees.

Shin Soo-Choo is rumored to be hoping to get $100 million or more over 6-7 years.

Obviously the Sox will have no part in the Cano bidding, but should they get in on Choo at that price? The career .389 OBP and 134 OPS+ is not bad looking, and he's only 31 so hopefully he's got some years left in him. But still, that's a big number to be looking at.

I'm going to pass on the 6 yr deal for the 31 year old. If we could do bigger money for a few years I'd be done but I just can't go that long with that much money for a 31 year old.

white sox probably don't need to be signing any 100mm free agent deals.

OTOH you have to spend money to make money amirite?

I believe you have to buy low and sell high.

So sign Choo to a 6/120 deal that pays 1/1/1/39/39/39 and after year three frame him for a murder (while taking steroids) so you can get his contract canceled.

i dunno...wouldn't a murder prove he was chicago tough?

I mean, assuming he didn't use glory boy tactics to murder?

Was watching the CSN live or whatever they want to call " The Sportswriters on TV"

Bruce Levine was on there mentioning the Sox are going in after the Abreau Kid from Cuba. Then he metioned so are the Dodgers.. My question is.. Why would the LAD go after a 1b?

Odds of egomaniac Konerko accepting a part time role? 1/1000

Odds of fans accepting Konerko in a part time role instead of front and center in their gay sex fantasies from the starting 1B spot? 0/1000

They are also talking needing to throw something in the neighborhood of 60Million at the Abreu kid.. YIKES!

After Tank went from M1 to a Panzer.. don't know if I'm willing to blow my new wad on the new kid.

There are like 5 or 6 teams in on Abreu. I'd be shocked if the Sox end up with him. The Dodgers or Rangers will almost certainly beat the Sox' offer.

The Dodgers are the hot blonde. The Rangers are the cute and smart brunette. The Sox are the fat chick.....'s acne ridden fatter friend.

Curtis Granderson will likely receive a qualifying offer from the Yankees and there's a strong possibility he would take it because he could post his biggest numbers at Yankee Stadium.

So overpay and have to give up a draft pick.. NO Fa-king way..

Thoughts on James Loney being the Sox 1b/DH for next couple of years? Looking at the Options if they miss out on Abreau.

As for McCann; Anthrax's Top 5 teams for his services
    1. Dodgers; Have a seeming limitless amount to spend and upgrade over Aj Ellis
    2. Yankees; Losing Martin last year hurt their them behind the plate; but with cutting payroll and having to sign Cano can they afford it?
    3. Boston; Salty is also a FA; and McCann would be an upgrade over Salty and would go along way in trumping the Yankess
    4. Tigers; Avilia since his Rookie season hasn't done squat; the Tigers GM loves to make splashes in FA, and If I recall.. V-Mart contract is due up after the 2014 season. Allows McCann to play C this year and then move into a 1b/C/DH role down the line.
    5. White Sox.. Do I need to explain this one?

Is it just assumed Bethancourt is going to be handed the job in Atlanta? I could see Atlanta moving a prospect like that for Price or Scherzer.

I would make a case that White Sox and Atl are interchangeable BUT>>>

Now the Scherzer for Bethancourt.. That's interesting on several fronts. If the Braves go that route; one would assume they would resign Scherzer; which would also take away ATL's Money to resign McCann.

For the Tigers this all depends on what else are they getting. Say we go your route; they get CB along with some Bullpen help for Scherzer.. They can they go after someone like Garza or Santana with the money saved to sure up their rotation..

I think Hudson is a FA, so that clears at least some money.

They have some terrible contracts though with Uggla and BJ Upton. I guess it just depends on where they see themselves. They need a playoff killer in that rotation. Minor and Medlen don't strike me as that type.
