Thronton and jackson seems a lot to give up. Then again, all the cardinals dansposting comments on hardball talk think they would be getting screwed on that deal. Of course, cardinals fans are morans
I think its Jackson OR Thornton and a prospect.
Jackson for rasmus?
Jackson and a prospect not named Viciedo works perfectly fine for me.
That would totally redeem the whole Hudson for Jackson trade.
How about Jackson and Rios? And.. $5mil/yr? Too much?
But we already have a super talented guy in CF. /freshprince
This can only help us
Great trade if it happens. Doesn't really effect our 2011 goals (lol) if Peavy is healthy and I think Larussa dicked around too much with Colby. A change of scenery and maybe he lives up to the hype.
The thing too, is that i don't think it hurts us in 2011 either. I'd love to see this get done
Even if he keeps his current numbers, his BA is like 40 points higher than Rios.
At this point, I think Spiewak could bat 40 points higher than Rios and/or Dunn.
It's too bad his name is Colby.
Colby cheese is not gay, or is it?
I stuffed my burger with colby jack recently
Where's he gonna play?
Sounds like an old black dude. "Sign in for your dialysis, Mr. Colby Rasmus".
Does that mean ozzie will play him
A cost controlled for 3 years CF who OPS'ed .860 at the age of 23 for a good but inconsistent SP the Sox won't have after next season and an above average middle reliever. And the Sox could use offense and have a glut at SP. This shouldn't be debatable.
Just wait till Rios starts hitting again....
Even if LaRussa hates Rasmus and they want to trade him, I have to think some team out there can beat what the Sox have to offer, assuming a few teams decide they're out of the race at the end of the week. If the Rays say they'll trade Shields, the Cards would almost certainly prefer him to Jackson. They may even like Kuroda over Jackson.
If they did get him though and didn't trade Quentin, the fun would really begin. Either Rios would be benched or KW would be forced to take Ozzie's left field playing porn away from him.
I dunno...i think there's a decent chance this gets done. The players you mentioned MIGHT be favored by the Cards, might not...but what we DO know is they ARE talking to the SOX....so...
Also while Rasmus seems like a godsend to us, he's not THAT good. Shields' value I think far exceeds Rasmus'. Honestly our deal is pretty even for both teams. Cardinals get pitching help that we have excess and we get some much needed offense.
I know what you're trying to say, but I think they want to part with Rasmus so even if they'd prefer Shields in a separate deal I still think we can present an enticing package for them.
Yeah...Rasmus is a project. We could use a project, since our talent has either bottomed out or is a year or two away, but he's still a project
If our GM is chasing a .244 guy for "hitting help", we also need "GM help".
I think we're sort of overvaluing him because we just want SOMETHING that has a pulse in our lineup. Jackson and a prospect is about what he's worth.
We have hitting help in the god damn minors.
I'm just speaking hypothetically. I don't think the Rays will trade Shields anyway. They're not afraid to just let a guy walk and take the picks.
Just saying that if the Cards are dangling Rasmus for pitching, the Sox could easily be beaten out. I mean, I doubt the Cards have some hard-on for Edwin Jackson. On the other hand, KW does seem to have a hard-on for Rasmus, so maybe he tries to close this before the weekend.
I'd love to see the Ozzie/KW war escalate if another KW guy is around to threaten Ozzie's pet.
Any way KW can find a taker for Rios? Probably not.
Yeah, let's ignore that he hit .276/.361/.498 last year, is a career .277 hitter in the minors and that even with his ".244" year his OPS+ (110) would be 3rd best on the team.
But yeah, fuck that shit.
The Rays don't need Rasmus though. Even if they trade Upton they are basically just opening a spot for Jennings. Ideally Jennings is probably a corner guy but they've been attempting to move Upton to reduce their glut of OF.
We have Dayan Viciedo. So that solves LF and maybe DH sometimes.
Still have pathetic hitting at 2B, CF and 3B.
Well...okay...but it's not like the guy is being targeted because he's a .244 hitter. I would even go so far as to say the guy is probably not a .244 hitter.
Well, I don't know that the Rays are that loaded with OF. Ruggiano and Fuld aren't going to be good everyday players, so if Upton goes, it's pretty much Jennings and Joyce. I guess Guyer is on the way. The Rays have actually already called about Rasmus, though I agree Shields would be too much to give up.
The only GM interested in acquiring Alex Rios since he signed that giant contract has been Kenny Williams.
This is just the kind of move the Sox need with a bloated, shitty payroll. He's not gonna slug you into the playoffs but he's not only a long-term "project" with "upside" and "talent," but he's, even in his current down year, a big upgrade over what we have. So he gives us a cost controlled guy for a few years with big time potential. He OPS+'d 133 last year.
That average probably won't go up with Walker.
Don't tell that to skotty!
Wish that Quentin for Beachy rumor was legit. These two moves would be fantastic.
I don't like the idea of getting rid of Quentin at all. He's having the second best season of his career and him and PK have pretty much been the only worthwhile hitters on the team all season. Yeah he's a FA in 2013, but I don't think the Sox need to trade him now.
KW commented on things today. Looks like the Tigers' series will determine what they do.
Because it is Edwin Jackson AND Matt Thornton
I haven't seen the defensive metrics, but KW/Ozzie probably think that Rios is killing them in CF. Even if you ignore that he's hitting like shit, he looks totally disinterested out there and it's resulting in horrible jumps (which is hard to pick up if you only watch on TV). He pulled up short on 3 playable balls in the 1st 3 innings today (including the one Bacon dropped) and almost quietly murdered Pierre after Pierre clearly called for a fly ball in the gap. Granted, a Rios/Pierre collision probably is a win-win. I'm just saying that he hasn't been very grindey lately, and I'm sure the Sox have noticed. If you're going to suck for the Sox, you'd better at least pretend like you give a shit.
Rasmus back to back games with homers. GET HIM NOW
This thread stings.
At TOR so far he's got 2 hits in 20 ABs so far. OPS about half of Dunn's.
Guy'll probably end up with batting .340/.400/.525 at TOR just to fuck with us.
