Weird that he doesn't have a thread already.

Anyway, today is MiLB opening day, and he killed it for W-S:
    3-4, 2 2B, BB, 2 R.

    3 BB today.

He should be expected to rake at this level (high-A), but they're going to have to take their time with him if they want him to stick at C.

    Or not.

0-4 today, dropping his average to .200.
Lots of BB but also lots of Ks.

Me and IWMB are now arguing with people on the Sox FB post about Collins' BA.

I mean, it should be higher and, by the end of the year, it will be. If he had stayed hot at the plate, he'd probably be getting promoted to BHM right about now, but he's mostly focusing on defense to avoid a position switch. To that end, it makes sense for him to play this entire season at W-S, then all of next season at BHM.

The Sox aren't looking to compete this year or next regardless. All the MLB club has to look forward to during the second half of this year is the debut of Moncada as Anderson's double play partner and Lopez and Giolito joining Rodon in the rotation. Guys like Collins are in the following "wave."

Also strike zones in lower leagues, with less skilled umps are usually more generous.

And yeah, catching is the hardest position to learn. He's focusing of his time learning how to be a better defensive catcher, since the Sox already feel he has a strong offensive base and it's his defense that is lacking.

Even Buster Posey, probably the most notable college catcher turned star player spent his entire first full season in the minors aside from a 7 game stint with the Giants. He did make the unique jump from A+ to AAA midway through, but he was clearly a more defensive ready prospect when drafted. He then started the first couple months in AAA before being called up.

It's not out of the question for Collins to follow a similar path. He could easily spend next year in AA and AAA and then get a September callup. It'll be a few months behind the Posey development track but again Posey was the more MLB ready catcher.
